| Hi, Xavi's has always been a very dominant dog, took a while to teach him his place in our family and he has been fine since, but recently with other dogs esp males he has gotten a little aggressive.
It began after his encounter with a golden retriever, as usual they raced a couple of times and Xavi's kept winning, then he went to sniff him and the dog suddenly got angry and started to attack they were both on two legs head to head, I managed to pull him away and I took him home
Next time I took him to the dog park he was fine until he met another golden retriever in which he attacked after 5 minutes of playing, he chased it away and started growling, at first I gave him a firm no in which he knows what it means, we reintroduced them and same thing happened again. Both dogs were male and Xavi's was 11 months the other dog was 3 years
Next time I took him he was fine with another female husky, but yesterday the same issue occurred with another 10 month old male husky, but they both started attacking each other at the same time, they cooled off after awhile and they were fine again with each other. Then another poorly socialized dog, male as we'll had another fight with the other husky in which they both left each other alone after that. It attacked Xavi's later on and he went all Afro and started biting back, growling and barking which is a first. He is fine with smaller dogs and all female dogs, but he is always trying to establish himself as the alpha in which I fear he might get injured or hurt someday
Before the first attack he never had any issues whatsoever he regularly played with other dogs big or small no problems whatsoever. Any ideas on how to help him stop fighting, he is very strong willed. Thanx

| Is he neutered? I have a 10.5 month old intact male and have noticed a big increase of aggression towards him from neutered males. Our daycare, and some more experienced people on the forum told me this is very common as he is kind of peaking hormonally and smells differently to other males. I really have to watch him in the dog park and watch closely which dogs come in. He also has started standing up for himself, which will escalate quickly if the other dog won't leave him alone. I would say just watch as dogs come in, and leave if you see a golden, or another dominant type male come in. Allowing him to stay in a situation like that is only going to let him keep practicing aggression and make him more reactive. Until he gets past this teen stage or until you get him neutered, protect him and keep him out of those situations. |
