PostSubject: Pooping less than normal   Pooping less than normal EmptyTue Dec 31, 2013 1:20 pm

My very hyper 6 month old has been pooping a bit less than normal, and it's beginning to freak me out. His diet has not changed at all--he still eats 2 meals of blue buffalo puppy food a day. He never strains to go, and his stool has the same color and consistency as before. The main difference is that instead of going 8 times a day, he's content only going three, and they're in smaller piles.

Should I be concerned? Normally I'd be concerned that he has some blockage from finding something non-digestible to swallow, but this has been going on for about 4 days now and he's still acting completely normal. Eating the same, playing with our other dog the same, etc. He's up to date on all of his shots and every time we go in, the vet says he is very healthy.

It's actual more normal for them to only poop a few times a day. I would have been more concerned with him going 8 times a day. As long as everything else is normal - no vomiting, still pooping, no lethargy, etc. I would think everything was fine.

If you notice him acting strange, then that would be cause for concern and I would take him in to the vet.

He very rarely vomits, so I assume that he's just digesting his food better.

Back when he used to go 8 times a day, the smell was also much worse than what he's been dropping the past week. I wonder if he had trouble digesting his food as a younger puppy, and he's finally starting to digest his food normally.

He could have been having a hard time with the food. Siberians tend to have sensitive tummies so that could have been a part of it. He also could have allergies to an ingredient in the food. If he's gotten normal though, it was probably just his tummy getting used to it. Had you switched it over cold turkey from what he was eating before?

I would just keep an eye on it if the color changes or consistency or it gets difficult for him to go I would be worried.

But also the older a dog gets its easier for them to hold it. He could just be growing up.

As far as his food goes, we haven't changed it since we got him when he was 7 weeks. I'm not sure what his previous owners fed him, but he's been on blue buffalo puppy food ever since.
