Hi everybody, i was just wondering what everyones male husky's weight was around 8 to 9 weeks. My pup is around 10 pounds (4.5 kg) and although the vet says its normal, charts around the internet say hes quite small for his age. So i was wondering everyone else's husky's weight was around this age. Also, I am feeding him IAMS Large Breed Puppy food (its what his breeder had him on), and was also wondering if food could be a problem.

Mine weighed about 12 pounds. She's on the larger side for her age though. I saw a Sibe puppy at Petco that is a month older than her, but was the same size! Puppies grow at different rates, even within the same breed. It's nothing to be concerned about, he sounds normal Smile

The size sounds alright, my Yuki was 11.2 pounds at 8 weeks. Big or small, however they turn out, as long as you can't see the ribs or the hip bones and they don't look emaciated I would say you're all right. Huskies come in all shapes and sizes, and definitely grow at different rates. I would definitely give our food and diet threads a look, huskies aren't a large breed so they don't need a large breed food. Also Iams isn't the best brand as it has grain and other fillers you typically want to avoid with dog food, look at http://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/ for ratings and to help find some good brands. And as always, introduce yourself and your pup and don't forget the pictures!

Lucian was just a little thing when I got him, weighing a measly 7 1/2 pounds at 8 weeks old. Now he's almost 11 months old, and weighs 50lbs. As for the food I would find something better. Lucian is on Earthborn Holistic puppy vantage. He does great on it. You can also look on the website Megan suggested. They have ratings for all kinds of food.

Do your puppy a favor and switch foods to Taste of the Wild puppy. Great stuff and no grains to upset his stomach.

You should be good feeding normal food and not "large breed" since huskies aren't technically a large breed dog.

As far as food choice goes, that's between you and your wallet. Wink Basically, try to buy the best food you can budget for and get consistently.

That can be hard to do when the labels on dog food bags are less than forthcoming with what their information actually means. Thankfully the FDA does regulate how it can go down, you can decipher it here: Pet Food Labels

Once you have an idea of what you're reading when you compare the foods, then you can chose which one seems best for your situation. Smile
