PostSubject: Is he an agouti?   Is he an agouti? EmptyThu Dec 19, 2013 1:57 pm

I'm wondering if Inuk is an agouti. His guard hairs are banded (black/tan/black), the face is dark, the color extends down to his paws, he has a black tail tip. The only thing because I'm not 100% sure that he is an agouti is because he also got some white fur. I've somewhere read that agoutis have cream fur instead of white fur. His paws and his cheat are white.

Maybe someone with a little bit more knowledge can help me out.

He deffinately looks to be going that Way. Does he have a cream or whitish coloured undercoat? Im not sure whether his stockings would have much to do with him 'not' being an agouti but maybe someone who shows huskies will have a better idea about those...

Is he a pure bred or a mix?

Looks like maybe some GSD characteristics, including color.

The first pic of the prancing is adorable...very gazelle or deer like.

his undercoat is cream colored. He is a pure bred siberian husky.

This is his father:

mother:

She also has a banded coat but I don't think that she is an agouti. But maybe she has the genes. It's funny that you said he has GSD characteristics, because I always get asked if he is a husky GSD mix or a GSD.

Yes, he is indeed a momma's boy. Yes, I know the site and I'm trying
to figure his coat out.

this person is in germany.. the gene pools can be quite different between countries.

Here's one that is in New Zealand.. he is an aussie import but still... you can see the difference http://www.pawtrax.co.nz/Index.asp?ID=31

Those racing lines can definitely look a lot different then your typical Siberian. I think they're all probably purebred.

I'm sure Ceara will chime in soon with her opinion Smile

He looks agouti to me, but keep in mind they can change a lot from this age. My pup was a light tan/buff at this stage, but is now a grey. I disagree that the mom looks mixed. I think she looks like full sibe, I think if you were to somehow 'paint' on traditional markings, she would look much more siberian like. I think the dark face can throw things off a bit, but to me her basic face shape looks siberian. Also, her ears are very widely set and large, so that combined with her coloring can mislead to a shepherd like appearance. I could be way off, but that's my opinion. Smile In any case he's a cutie!

You know he looks like a belgian shepherd malinois. My trainer has one, and it looks just like your Inuk. Especially because of the long skinny nose.
I'm not saying that's what he is...just looks similar.
