Koda is a very smart, fun dog! Im having a issue with him thought thats pretty annoying. When we are relaxing, we are in my room. This is where his cage is that he sleeps in, where all his toys and bones are, where his water is.. And i put a baby gate up to keep him in there with me. The problem is, if he doesnt have a bone, he is barking or biting me. And its getting frustrating. I tell him no, i ignore him, i shove toy in his mouth.. I tried a bunch of things and its just not working. I think its more when im not paying attention to him. Which i understand i just dont know how to fix it. Is this something because of his age? The "teenage phase" or is this a behavior issue or both? How should i go about fixing this?

I would say its a teenager thing as well as a too much energy thing, the only thing I can suggest is to tire him out before you go to relax, take him for a long walk/jog, then see if he improves. These crazy teenagers are always bouncing off the walls, the only way to calm em down is to tire em out! Once he's old enough you may wanna look into biking, one round around the block and my two sleep for ages Very Happy

Dizzy will sometimes get into a mode like you described. Usually it's as Megan suggested and he needs to get some exercise, or its because he's bored and wants to play. So, I either take him for a walk or play with him, or walk then play. Smile If I've done both the walk and play and need him to calm down, then I will just sit down on the floor next to him for a few minutes with my ipad, usually he'll grab a bone and settle down against me to chew and when I get up to go sit on the couch, he'll bring his bone and settle at my feet. If he is just incessant and rude about it, he gets put in his crate for a few minutes or until he calms down. Usually all I have to say is, "Do you wanna go in your crate?" and he'll calm down.

Ok maybe it is just lack of exercise. He will still do it sometimes after a 45min walk but maybe ill have to try some more tiring activity to tire him out more. I got a xback harness i havnt tried yet. I was waiting till snow is gone so i can have him pull me on my rollarblades since he has never done it, i felt i can control him better with them than a bike. Any suggestions on training him to pull then. When he was younger i used to say "koda go" and me and him would run for a min or 2. And he did good. Now though when i try it or just start running, he turns around and keeps jumping at me as im trying to run.

Well, I know Dizzy needs both exercise and dedicated play time with me to be satisfied and calm. I actually get down on the floor and wrestle with him like he would play with another dog. I also taught him 'find it' so i will crate him and then hide treats around the apartment and tell him to 'find it.' That satisfies him as well.

I do play with koda a lot but it doesnt tire hime out to much. He likes to play fetch. And we do a lot of training. And we tug alot. I wish i couls wrestle with him but he mouths to much and to hard when we arnt wrestling im afraid it will make his training of trying to stop the mouthing worse. He is to old i think to still be mouthing

That completely makes sense. Dizzy has a soft mouth and will stop right away if I yelp or say "off."

Have you ever tried one of those dog puzzle toys? I have heard they are good mental exercise and help wear them down. I have never tried one but I have been looking at Christmas presents for my dog. Or Nylabones? You have to keep an eye on them and take them away when they get small but my dog will go grab one when I am reading or on the computer and just chew away. It reminds me of being with a friend who id reading a book.

Anna does this as well. She could care less if I told her no or shush. She will stand there and bark and bark so I ignore her. I read not to give in or else they will continue to bark to get you to play. I read to wait until they stop barking and then you play. Anna's problem isn't a lack of exercise, it's mostly her being annoyed we aren't paying her attention. If we don't respond to the barking, she sometimes will chase our cat, mess with her so when we call her she brings a toy like "oh you want to play now."
