| Loki pulled out of my hands today a bit to excited, and I was a bit to tired. He was having a bit to much fun and took off down the side of our country road, My mom had to go get him with the truck because I couldn't catch him. They were staying side by side at 33mph and had to go over the speed limit to pass him and open her door so he would think he got to go for a car ride, and jump in... I was unaware a husky could go that fast and now I am curious. My mom also noted that it did not look like he was stretching out and hitting his top speed. He jumps up and down onto a 4 foot dog house about 40-50 times a day and has some pretty good leg muscles going on! |

| The fastest I have clocked Link at is 15mph - he is still a beginner and this speed is with him pulling me and the bike, so I'm sure with more conditioning and muscle building he will get faster. |

| I think greyhounds hit 45 miles per hour as the fastest dogs. Mine is still puppy so I do not know yet. |

| I believe huskies can run 18mph pulling a grown man so that doesn't surprise me |

| My team sustains a 10mph pace, but we have hit speeds of 14-15mph mostly on starts |

| Awesome question! I had never thought to clock their speed, but a good way to do it would be to maybe setup/measure a predetermined distance and then have someone hold your pup, have a 3rd person with a stopwatch. Get the pup all excited with a favorite treat or toy and then make a big crazy display and take off running. When you cross or are about to cross have the person holding Loki let him go, and have the third person start the stop watch as he crosses the starting line and stop it when he crosses the finish line. Then you can just calculate mph. You could even experiment with different distances to see what his initial burst of acceleration would be vs. what he settles into. Example: Say he takes 5 seconds to run 50' 5280'/50' = 105.6 5 seconds * 105.6 = 528 seconds to run a mile 528/60 = 8.8 minutes per mile 60/8.8 = 6.81 miles per hour That would be rather slow for a husky, I can almost run that, but its just an example. Of course, there is always the human error factor, in terms of the stopwatch start and stop, but it might be able to give you a rough estimation. |

| Hmm, I will have to get him further conditioned and see what he can top out at! He gets to be an actual sled dog in a sled-dog team this winter, so that should help! |

| I know when running my husky today we completed a mile in 6 minutes. That being said it includes potty breaks and pulling a 150 lb human sled. He still has a lot left speed wise but I can't sustain his speed. I have always wanted to know this just never knew a way of being able to calculate it with him staying on leash. |

| I have an app for my phone that measures distance, speed, time, etc of a run or bike ride. I use it to see how fast and far we go when we bikejour.
We generally average about 8 miles an hour, but towards the beginning of a run I have seen 15 mph. I know they can go faster, but that's not bad for pulling me! |

| The app I use for measuring our time/distance also measures speed, but I'm not sure how accurate it is.
We average about 10mph, but we've gone quicker than 20mph a few times. |

I bought a little tracker thing off amazon for bikes that tells me how fast I'm going, how many miles I've gone, and my average speed. That's the only way I know Link's speed because I don't have smartphones like everyone else xP |

| It's funny that I saw this topic as I just tested this with my dog. I recently discovered that HUGE expense of grass near where I live. It's like a mile long by half a mile wide and you can take you car on the grass without any problems from law enforcement.
Since I discovered that plac I go there every saturday to make him run like he's meant to do. I'll let him out of the car and just drive around on the grass with my boy following.
I checked his top speed out of curiosity. He can do 27-28mph at full sprint for about a minute. He can keep 18-20mph for at least a half hour. And he can do 10-12mph for as long as my tank of gas will last. He can do 30 miles easily in an evening.
Here's a quick video of him running at 18-19mph (30kph). There was too much snow on the grass that day so he ran on the street. That street leads to a hydro-electric dam that was closed at the time so there is no cars at all but me.
Sorry for the dark video but my phone's camera sucks.

I'LL make another video tomorrow showing him at full sprint when I go there again. It's impressive to see them running at closee to 30mph. |
