I thought Siberian Huskies didnt bark but my boy does. I taught him speak and it's clearly a bark, not a howl. When will he truly talk like a Husky is supposed to and why is he barking instead of it? 

Luci didn't start talking until 7-8 months. She still barks a lot too.

Nanook is still a baby

When something triggers him. We have a hurricane alarm that goes off every Saturday for 2 minutes. Every time the bell rings, Juneau will howl.

Maybe you could find some music videos or something to help make him howl. Or find videos of huskies howling on youtube.

Lol ive tried that. He'll kindof make a "yowwing" sound when he wants in from the back yard but no matter what sounds i make unless its the ice maker(which makes him bark for ice cubes) he doesnt make a peep.

My husky still really doesn't howl or whoo...she barks when she wants in and she barks at the neighbor kids when they bother her, but that's not often. I didn't even realize she had gotten a big girl bark til she did it to them one day. She will whoo when she wants attention, because she knows my hubby really wants her to whoo but she only does it when she wants him to pay attention to her.

When I was little we had a collie that my sister and I could make howl. We would sit next to him and start howling ourselves. That would get him to howl, then the cocker would join in and all four of us would howl. Maybe make it a game for him?

My 10 month old does both, often. But the wooing and talking started later. He barks in more confrontational moments, like when playing rough or in our battle-of-wills or when really excited. The wooing and talking are more relaxed and social, like when we get home, when he wants us out of bed, when his Husky friends are around, when I play the harmonica, or when we talk to him. He actually will engage us in a "conversation" now. That started at about 8 months.

MY Nanook just started howling 2 weeks ago! she's 6 months old now. It's super cute. Don't worry your nanook will howl soon!

Now My Nanook will actually have conversations with me. I have a Youtube Channel for her antics lol

And MY Nanook woos/barks when we play. I can't really get him to howl except on occasion when I get one of his squeeky toys going, but that's fairly rare. Think it's different for each pup.

Both mine still bark...they bark at other dogs, and at random people walking down the street.
They wooo when we get home and they howl when they hear alarms, and sirens going off.

Your puppy will howl, it's just a matter of time and what sets him off.

On the bright side he has started going to the back door and barking when he wants out. He is insanely smart. He proves the husky stereotype wrong in every way.

Anubis turns 5 on the 22nd and he rarely howled, I can count it on one hand. When he wants something he barks or a mix of barking and howling.
I guess not every Husky is into the howling thing.

I don't know that I would say I've heard Bode howl. He definitely woooo woooos and talks a lot, but never anything that I would classify as a howl.

Every dog is a little different!

Qannik has barked since the first day we got him. He is almost 2 and talks up a storm when he has something to say. My husband and I just love it! As an aside, he has never howled!

Denali has rarely bark. She used to woooo wooo whenever she wanted attention. She also used to sit on her rearend and paw at the air with her front paws. Kodiak rarely woooo woos but barks a lot. At 80lbs, he is too big to get on his rear.

Layla doesn't howl or woo yet, just barks and little whines and other kinds of noises when she's frustrated or playing, but she's only 3.5 months. I've tried playing audio of wolves, huskies and other dogs howling and she will do the head-tilt thing but won't make a noise. She's actually pretty quiet, which is nice, but I would love to get a good howl out of her soon! Good to know some people experienced howling once their huskies were a little older. Hope we do too!

Diz barked a lot as a young pup and has recently started talking. He woo/howls when he's really excited to see someone. He has also started talking back when I ask him to do things. When I recall him and ask him to sit, he whines/talks as he's sitting if he is excited to get back over to the tree he was just sniffing. It's kinda funny. He's a silly boy for sure.

My girl doesn't howl. She makes all the other noises, but will not howl...

I found Nookies muse. WATER! Turn on the sink or hit the ice maker and he woos his brains out!

My Loki would only howl when I would play a video of him as a pup.
