So far Kodiak has destroyed 1 couch, 1 love seat, 2 comforters, chewed on one corner of a wall, almost chewed a hole in another wall, destroyed carpet in dining room, chewed hole in carpet in den, destroyed 6 dog pets, almost chewed thru a leg of a TV tray, numerous magazines and a few books, and some smaller items which were unidentifiable after the fact. He is now 15months old. So at what age can we expect him to stop destroying things? By the way, he has lots of toys and chews and another dog to play with plus he seems to destroy things when we are home more than when not.

Wow, that's some serious destruction. Have you tried more exercise or doggy daycare? Kenzi is between 3 and 4 years old and she will still destroy little things if left down, but she hasn't bothered any furniture since we've owned her and she is more likely to leave things alone when she has had at least a couple miles of running or walking with a weight pack.

Wow, that's a lot of stuff by 15 months!

Do you crate him while you're out? If you crate him, he won't have a chance to destroy those things. Give him a kong or a bully stick to chew on.

He sounds bored. Do you exercise him a lot? He's taking out his pent up energy on the items around your house. If he was given daily walks, he might not destroy as many things. I know he has a brother/sister to play with, but maybe that's not enough stimulation for your pup.

Juneau stopped chewing on things around the house at ~10 months. I will occasionally find a spot of carpet that she has chewed on, but not enough for someone new to notice.

I would love an answer to this question!! The only time Selena was destructive was when she was really young and it was only like 2 dog beds and a couple spots on the carpet. On the other hand, Keeara is VERY destructive..granted I know she is only 6 months old but she is BAD. She has decided to dig/chew a hole in one of our stairs (in the house), she actually eats all her toys and swallows them (I had to rush her to the vet the other day and they luckily got a 7 inch toy with 2 squeakers up by inducing vomiting) and a couple days ago she did this to our curtains......

My girls are no way under exercised...I am home with them all day and we go outside to play 3 times a day plus 2 long walks. I just hope I have a destructive "puppy" and it stops lol! scratch

I walk him 3 miles a day and play with him when he wants to play. He does the destroying when I am not home but my wife is. She plays with him when she can but with her bad back, it is limited. She checks on him when he gets real quiet and he is usually sleeping. 30 minutes later, she will check again and the bed will be in pieces. She cannot walk him because of her back. I work from
3pm to midnight and since my wife cannot handle him, doggie day care is out of the question. We have given him bully sticks and such but they do not last very long. Just hoping he grows out of this stage soon.

Funny thing is that he will not mess with anything while we are gone. We went on a 2 week vacation and all he destroyed was a small pillow.

I think it depends on the dog. Mya stopped at around 4 years old when we started leaving her uncrated little by little. She's now 7years old and still gets into some stuff here and there, but stupid things like paper, nothing serious. We started leaving Kody uncrated with Mya (he's 3 years old) and he would have many good days and then BOOM destroy something. Not furniture or anything though. I put him back in the crate while we're gone. Maybe he's not totally ready yet. Asia is 1 1/2 and will probably get into stuff while we're home if given a chance, but I'm constantly on top her so I don't really give her time..lol.

Lycus has escaped his crate twice and both times he destroys stuff around the house, and drags down everything on the counter tops lol, but never anything big or expensive. Extra locks on his crate for him now haha.

Hopefully Kodiak will grow out of his phase soon to save your home!

Wow you two are lucky. Even Denali when she was young destroyed things, but only magazines and paper.

Link was 15 months when I got him, now 20 months, and has never destroyed anything while with me. Yuki, however, is 14 months and has destroyed something since the day she got home and is still going strong. She's always got to get ahold of something Razz

Nor has Juno.  Very Happy I think it is because for the first 3 years of her life I was home with her almost all of the time.  They need that companionship.
