Help, Luna is having a serious case of runny poop Empty
PostSubject: Help, Luna is having a serious case of runny poop   Help, Luna is having a serious case of runny poop EmptySat Sep 28, 2013 12:45 pm

My pup has had runny poop for two days now and its getting more liquified by the day. She threw up once yesterday morning but she is acting the same. She is not tired, she is still very playful and still drinks plenty of water. What could be wrong with her? She has been on the same food since ive gotten her.

Hi Liz, not sure how old your Luna is (our husky's name is Luna as well Smile), but we've had the runny poop problem on and off ever since we got her 4 weeks ago (she's almost 13 weeks now).

First it turned out she had parasites, despite being wormed, but I assume this has been ruled out in your case by your vet after doing tests (though I think she may still get them, while she's a puppy). We've had Luna on antibiotics and she started having normal, puppy-like poop before we finished treatment.

Then yesturday, all of a sudden, she's had those explosive-kind of poop again. And yes, it got worse by every next potty time. That's all my fault, though. I got her the kong toy filled with peanut butter (first peanut butter experience), and obviously she loved and cleaned it well. That's when the runny poop started. I decided to give the peanut butter a break, and today her poop, though still kind of runny, was much much better.

I'm not sure if all puppies react this way to new treats, but we had the same experience with a chewable toothing ring. My SIL told me puppies may have those problems with treats, so I just either avoid them, or just cut the portions she gets.

Have you been giving her any new treats/chewables? This may have caused runny poop. Or something she ate while you weren't looking (our Luna is very good at that Wink). If not, and if this continues, I'd recommend checking with the vet.

Keeping fingers crossed so that it's nothing serious and goes away by itself. Smile

Huskies are notorious for having food intolerances. Many vets will just ignore it. Years ago we had a husky with a seriously sensitive tummy and the vet would just treat the symptoms with a "belly calming" medicine or some sort (like Pepto Bismol for dogs). After we began reading stuff on our own and learning about the high probability of grain allergies in huskies and we switched out all of her food and treats, she improved immediately! Watch treats especially, we were burned with the wheat that is in certain edible "bones" (like the Nylabone Edible and the Everlasting Treat Ball). Wheat, corn and soy are the top food allergens for dogs, yet they show up in lots of things! Some dogs even have problems with certain meat sources as well. If you feed her a bland diet of chicken and carrots or eggs and carrots (other people on the forum know so much more about this than I do) with a little pureed pumpkin to settle the stomach, you can begin adding back some grain-free kibble and see if she can tolerate it.

Good luck!

Good to hear her poop is better.  There are several topics that cover this issue of runny poop.  Please search the board.

Anyways, does the food you are feeding her have any grain, wheat, or corn in it?  Look at the ingredients label.  She might have an intolerance to those ingredients.  Some huskies are allergic to chicken as well.

If you ARE feeding her grain free and etc, then I would try a 'bland' diet for a few days.  The bland diet consists of 2-3 eggs and 1/3 cup of veggies per meal time (peas, green beans, anything green).  Also add 1 tbspn of pure canned pumpkin (not the pie filling).

Sometimes their tummies have to be reset.  I don't like the chicken and rice diet because some pups are intolerant to the rice.

Hope the poop stays firm!

Most people on this site feed grain free dog foods. We all love the site called dog food advisor. I looked that up and though it didnt have the proplan puppy, it had other proplans and none scored above a 3 star. Not trying to change ur mind, but i was in the same boat as you. Koda started on a purina and i had to try 3 other foods before i got his stomach settled on one food. In the long run though i found out he is allergic to turkey. Like i said i dont know your budget or anytbing but i think most peolle will try to recommend u changing from purina. If you would like suggestions, u can tell ur price range and im sure people will make some suggestions! Ur pup is awsome looking BTW! Also i almost forgot a little plain pumpkin can help firm up the poop sometimes. It worked sometimes for koda unless he was really sick

well she is doing fine now, she is eating her pup food again and her poop is remaining hard. I think it was something she ate outside but i am thinking about switching her to Blue Buffalo

I resisted going "grain free" with Rogue until the day I came home and he had been sick from both ends and painted the walls, doors, and himself with the proof. I have never been so grossed out and worried at the same time! After a complete cleansing and disinfecting of EVERYTHING including my poor puppy, I now read labels for him more carefully than I do for the two legged members of our family!

Their tummies are more sensitive, and it can take awhile to find what works best. After the "Day of Doom" I looked back and realized how often he would have problems with his bowels and how I often blamed it on something he must have found in the yard, missing the first and obvious place was what I put in his bowl! I almost forgot my reason for replying - I was feeding him Proplan too. And sometimes he would be fine, but I would say at least once a month (maybe more) he would have digestive issues.

I am not discounting that he might have gotten something in our yard, like a lot of other Sibes here, for Rogue the only way to explore is to put it in his mouth! But I did see a big difference when we made the switch. And I am in no way saying that is what made Luna ill - just IMO the grain free has made a great difference in our lives!

I personally feed Natures Domain - I can get a big 35 lb bag from Costco (only sold at Costco) and it has been the most economical brand I have found. There is a thread on here under Feeding and Nutrition that lists what others have tried and what works for them.

I also have gotten to where I only buy "Made in the USA" treats and chews (also grain free) since Rogue got sick on one that was made in Mexico. Again - could be coincidence, but not worth the risk to me.
