Forum Rules
1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect.
2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! Hello all,

I am new to husky ownership and the two huskies I have were rescued from an uninhabited island in southeast Alaska. I don't think they are pure husky but do believe they are mixes. Can someone help me know what I have?

My guess would be that they are Alaskan Huskies which are a mix of different breeds specifically bred for sled racing. Their both beautiful!

Hard to tell. The one with floppy ears has a face kind of like a lab..... Hmmm. I don't think you can ever know for sure what they are. I would just say a mix an done of them does look like they have some husky in them for sure. The other I can't tell...

You could do a DNA test if you really wanted to know for sure? I agree that one does look like a lab/husky mix of some sort, and the other looks like it could be purebred.

They also don't look like typical Alaskan huskies (though this term is confusing because from what I've read it isn't a pure breed but it does have a unique genetic "signature" ?? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alaskan_Husky), at least to my (untrained) eye.

Only one way to find out for sure!

I would agree that the flop eared one has a lab look to him/her (?)

Thanks.This all seems to fit what I think. I appreciate the input. Does anyone have any good training books you like. I am having the typical husky issues. Nipping, stubbornness, digging, howling. I have been working on behavior for the last few months and not making much head way. This is my first attempt at solo dog training. Embarassed
