2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.

The Word Of Dog (an anti-rant) Empty
PostSubject: The Word Of Dog (an anti-rant)   The Word Of Dog (an anti-rant) EmptyThu Sep 26, 2013 7:47 pm

I find myself getting pretty upset over the things uneducated owners say in some of the groups. I guess I got tired of saying the same thing over and over so I decided to whip this up. I haven't proof read it yet so please give me feedback! I appreciate it.

https://www.facebook.com/notes/nicole-marie/the-word-of-dog/10151692056819646

"Our dogs are our best friends. They are always happy to see you. A dog does not hold grudges. When you need someone to listen without criticism they are there for you. A dog is part of your family. They respect you as their human and would be loyal to you to the end of them. So why, then, do so many dog owners fail to respect the rights of their beloved companions' species? We set so many rules for our canine companions perhaps it is time for them to set a few rules of their own. So I present to you my own little bit, "The Word Of Dog". Feel free to add comments/suggestions to edit/add to this.

THE WORD OF DOG

RULE # 1: I, your canine, am your friend not a puppy factory. I may be beautiful and I agree I am "pawesome" but that doesn't mean I want to have litters of pups to support your shopping habit or your strange desire to see little versions of me running around. I believe I should be wonderful enough, don't you think? If you have not done adequate research you could be dooming my offspring to genetic disorders. Have you ever seen the pain of hip displaysia? Had to walk around blind or deaf? As a dog we rely on these senses even more than you humans do. If you do not know my genetic heritage, and that of the random dog you decided I should have intercourse with, I should not be reproducing. I'd much rather be playing fetch or running circlesin the yard anyways.

RULE #2:

Those new sandals you purchased? They look like a chew toy to me. The bag of trash you left out in the open? Yeah, smells like food to me. I am a dog. If you left these things on the floor they are in my domain. Leave me unattended in the house and you can be assured I will be the ruler of the home. Don't get mad at me- I thought you left them for me as a treat for doing such a good job watching the house! If you didn't want me to have these things you should have left me in my cozy crate with the things you don't get angry about me chewing. What can I say, I'm a dog. What would you do out of boredom if you were left alone and there was no such thing as reading, writing, watching tv, listening to music? Yeah, I bet you'd be bored too.

RULE #3:

I have seen that you humans do your duty in a porcelain chair. Well I'm not too keen on that idea. I prefer doing it on the grass. I also see that you have these porcelain chairs conveniently at work and at the random places you shop. If you leave me alone for 12 hours your carpet sure begins to look a lot like grass. If you don't want me to use the polyester and rayon blend grass as my potty place then take me outside. I tried to tell you I needed to go...but you either weren't paying attention or weren't here. Don't get angry. Remember, I'm your beloved dog. I love you unconditionally. I don't even make fun of the noises you humans make when doing your duty.

RULE #4:

When you have a cold or the flu you like to go to the Dr. I don't always have the ability to tell you something is amiss until it is too late. I know I cried when you took me to the vet last time, but secretly I do like that place. I'd rather be seeing them than feeling my heart fill with worms or have to use the carpet to itch my bum. Let's be honest, you get a bit angry when I do that. I'll still pout...but take me to the vet regularly. I promise I will make you laugh later.

RULE #5:

If you decide to get me a sibling please make an educated decision. If you go buy that pretty pup from that lady down the street I might get heart broken having to listen to the conditions she grew up in. Can you believe how small those cages were? How disgraceful....that dog we ran into on our walk, the one with the human who said she had some puppies available for cheap? She had THREE litters of puppies just this year! Yikes! And you humans thought YOU had stretch marks. We are just lucky our fur covers it up. If you want to get me a puppy sibling make sure it is from a human who cares about the breed. If you want another canine because of specific behavioral traits make sure you get it from someone who knows the breed, does official testing and asks questions about our home. It is the only way you are sure you are getting the sibling we are expecting. If you adopt a sister or brother for me please make sure we meet in public first. I really hate it when other dogs come in claiming my home as theirs. Let me invite them over first.

RULE #6:

I will get old and grow out of that puppy stage. This doesn't mean I'm not the same dog you fell in love with. I will love you forever, please keep me forever. I know I am canine and not homosapien but I think of myself as your furry child. You wouldn't give up your child, would you?

RULE #7:

I understand you have to discipline me. I don't speak the best human all the time, nor do I understand it. Just don't hit me like that, ok? You can make the point without hurting me. If I run away from you and don't come back and you hit me what makes you think I will want to come back the next time? Would you run towards someone who beats you? I would hope not... I am just a dog but I am pretty forgiving... don't take advantage of that.

RULE #8:

Leashes, fences and crates, oh my! I know my adventurous spirit wants to be running but sometimes I just don't know what is good for myself. That leash has already saved me many times. It is like the seatbelt of going for a walk. The other day I saw a squirrel and I really wanted to go play with it but my leash reminded me there was a highway between us. Sorry, I get a one track mind sometimes. We all wear seatbelts for our own safety even though they can be uncomfortable. The leash and the fence? Yes, I understand why you have to use them. I saw that cat I used to play with through the window the other day in the middle of the road when we went for our walk. He wasn't moving. Sometimes I hate this leash but I wish that cat would have been wearing his. Then I could still play with him. Do you remember that collie we met at the dog park a few weeks ago? I haven't seen her in a while. Rumor has it she found some dog treats only they weren't dog treats while the owner was at work. Thank you for keeping me safe in my cozy crate.

Normally I'm not a fan of stuff written from the dogs point of view, but I love this. I think the reason I don't normally like it, is because its way too cutesy and silly, but this is awesome! Couldn't agree more. Smile

Thank you everyone Smile Smile

I was getting SOOOO aggravated on a certain FB page seeing all these people post things like:

"I don't have a place for my pup to go potty so she has to go potty inside....when is she old enough to have puppies?"

"OMG, my sibe pup keeps tearing everything up when I leave for work! What do I do? I don't believe in crating".....

"My other dogs go off the leash, surely it's ok to let my sibe run free too"

I seriously just wanted to scream at everyone, instead I wrote this. LOL I think it was a better use of my anger.
