2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Am I wasting my time? Empty
PostSubject: Am I wasting my time?   Am I wasting my time? EmptySun Sep 01, 2013 5:32 pm

Went to show today. No competition. in her class. Was told by a trusted friend/handler that her down and back was perfect but I wasn't gating her fast enough on the once around. (Seemed like I was!) First time in ring for me, and only been working with her for two weeks.

Now, I know I cannot expect miracles as she is only 9 months old and any ring time is a good thing for her and me. BUT, cannot help wondering if we should just wait for her to mature? Was told she's still rear high and does not have a straight topline when gating A bit concerned at this point about that
Have her signed up for travel with a handler the next few weeks but now thinking I am wasting money? ? Any thoughts???? Appreciated! Wink

She is a puppy and puppies go through all kinds of awkward growth phases.  -every- puppy goes through a butt high phase just like every puppy will go through an extremely long/lanky phase.  She'll grow out of it.

It is extremely good experience for her to be in the ring as it teaches her now what to expect.  There are many people who will put a puppy away around the 6 month or shortly after mark because of all of the growing/changing that happens and bring them back out when they've matured (puppies can look REALLY ugly sometimes lol).  It's all a personal preference.

If she's out of balance I'd personally put her away and let her grow into herself again. I can't tell you how many times in the past 2 years I've put Denali away to let him grow up. In the end it's been worth it. But really nothing as of yet should be worried about, she's a puppy and there's a lot of room to grow into herself yet. As for the rest- Traveling with a handler is always a good experience if that's the route you want to go, and it gives the handler time to work with her when you may not be able to- if this is an experienced handler, they should be willing to tell you if now is the right time to be showing or not. Expect that kind of honesty from your handler. Ring time is nice, and really if you have already paid the entry fees why not, but acknowledge she's a puppy so just be happy with whatever she does.
