| Subject: Will my husky be huge? Tue Aug 20, 2013 8:05 pm | |
| Loki is 22 weeks old. He weighs 44.2 lbs and is about 21" at the shoulder. I took him to vet today for more heartworm pills. What is bizarre is my huge lab at 22 weeks weighed 49.2 lbs. I asked the vet to look it up for me. His healthy weight is about 104 lbs and he is closer to 27-28" at shoulder.
Of course he is a rescue from high kill shelter in Indiana. I am not sure if he is pure husky. Have no information on either parents. What is even more surprising is when I took him to first appt, vet said he is unsure if birthday given was accurate and suspected he could be younger.
Guess only time will tell. If he is going to be huge, I hope he keeps his laid back and fairly mellow attitude. |

| I'm curious what other people have to say about this. I've wondered the same thing about my pup. At 4 month checkup he was about 35 lbs. At 6 months he was 55 lbs. He's now 7 months and bigger than my 65 lb 3 yr old alaskan husky/timber mix. I don't know the exact weight but definitely needs to fill out still. He's at that skinny akward teenager stage, lol. But the shelter said his dad might've been a mal. who knows he looks husky to me. (my sis in law has 2 mals, no resemblence)

| At 4 months, Juneau was 27 lbs. At 6 months, Juneau was 37 lbs. 5 lbs per month. At 1 year and 3 months, she weighs 52.6 lbs. About ~18 inches at her shoulders. She's a tiny bit above average for a female (35-50 lbs for females is standard). Males can go up to 60 lbs, and they're typically an inch or two higher.
I think Loki will be pretty big. He may just mature faster though. I've never had a male husky as a puppy to track the weight.
Laurnerox1, your pup sounds a bit bigger than average too lol. I would definitely think he has a little bit of Mal in him. Just keep track of your weights on a spreadsheet to see the progress. lol |

| Well I'm not too sure, my male is smaller than any other female husky I've come across (vet thinks he may be some shiba/husky mix, not that it really matters) at almost a year he's at barely 40 lbs and only 19 inches to the shoulder. did you get your boy from a breeder or did you rescue? If you got him from a breeder you could always contact them and ask how big his dad is... Would think that would give you a better idea. |

| Okami is 8 months old and sits at 54 pounds. A Healthy Female Husky at full grown averages around 55 pounds, and a male should at full grown on average be 60 pounds. It is information I found somewhere on my daily husky research searches. Huskies are usually fully grown at around 1 1/2 - 2 years old. |

| He was from rescue who pulled him and his brother out of high kill shelter. They did not have much info other then they thought his birthday was later (late march or early april) which my vet agreed whereas shelter listed as 3/18. 22 weeks is based on earlier 3/18 date.
Loki is averaging about 10lbs per month. Maybe he just had early growth spurt. He seems to be growing more into his paws. He is also pretty lanky too and I know he will fill out later. Maybe he will even grow into his ears. Lol |

| Honestly, you'll never know. Some dogs grow and mature faster then other dogs. My older male Embry, at 6 months was around 30lbs, my female Zoey was almost 50lbs at 6 months. |

| We picked up Onyx at 8 weeks old, but I don't remember what his weight was at that time. All I remember is we would weigh him at home monthly and he was growing at a rate of 10lbs per month! At six months he reached 63 lbs and has leveled off since then. My boy is a little shorter, using his brother and another husky we know as a comparison, but is fairly broad chested.
I think in the end you won't know the size until he is at about 18 months, then you will have a better idea. That's part of the fun of being a husky parent, there are no two huskies exactly alike! |

| My 7 month old weighs 53lbs. Granted, he is a little chunky, but he definitely hit his growth faster than a lot of pups his age.
When I got him at 8 weeks he weighed 14lbs. I haven't averaged his growth over the months though. I'll have to see if I can find all my weights. Lol. _________________ |

| Sounds like my Lycus. He was almost 80 lbs at 10 months old but that's where he has stayed up until now. He was growing at almost 10lbs per month! Now he's at about 27" tall. He's all legs really. Sometimes I wonder if he really is a purebred husky, especially considering he came from a BYB. Nonetheless, I love my gentle giant. Only time will tell with your pup! |
