So this weekend, the bf and I are going to take Juneau to a beach for the first time, as long as it doesn't rain. Should be in the high 80's during the day and partly cloudy.

So far I have:

-Fresh Water & Water Bowl
-Long Leash
-Regular Leash
-Towels
-Treats
-Floaty toys
-Sheet for the back of the jeep
-Slicker brush for the sand

Obviously I'll bring sunscreen and the like for us humans, lol, but it's the first time that I'm bringing a dog to the beach and I want to do it right.

What are some things to bring on your trip to the beach? I can only think of a few things and it feels like I'm missing stuff lol. What do you guys bring to the beach? I'm hoping she really likes digging in the sand (and not eating it). She loves to swim.

It will be in the early AM and probably no more than 4 hours.

Sounds like you have everything to me. That's about all I bring myself (though the beach is 5-7 minutes up the road from us lol) Good luck!

Yeah it's about 30-45 mins from us, depending on traffic! I forgot poop bags on the list. They're attached to her leash though lol.

We go to the beach every weekend, sometimes at night on summer evenings.
I bring 1 backpack with:
-4 leashes & 2 chain collars (just in case something breaks or falls into ocean during play)
poop bags
-1-2 gallons of fresh water (for drinking and then rinsing off paws and my feet before getting in Jeep)
-collapsable bowl
-A few ziplocks of treats they ONLY get at beach - such as hot dogs / cheese sticks / sausage etc. something stinky to keep them coming back to me easily. Always works
-And a LOUD whistle. I have Brooks trained on a certain whistle that no other dogs really come to, it's a tune, and she comes RUNNING when she hears it. I can't whistle over the ocean/wind so I recommend getting a dog whistle
-I also bring PLENTY of tennis balls / toys. Other dogs may steal them and it's better to have too many to protect against guarding issues (like mine have, lol)

Woo! Thanks. I wasn't sure how much water to bring or what. 1-2 gals sounds great. And I'll definitely bring some cheese sticks - she goes crazy for those lol. I didn't think of the whistle! Thanks! I'll have to get one. Great advice!

Instead of a long leash, I bring a 25-50ft orange floating rope. On a dog beach i let him run off lead but any other beach, he's on the rope as he has 0 recall right now.

Take my pups to the beach all of the time (great way to avoid ticks), loads of fun. For a dog not used to ocean waves, they may get a freaked out when they feel the sand moving away from under their feet as the waves draw back.

You may want to consider getting a waterproof case for your cell, accidents can happen and ocean water is a lot more damaging than fresh water.

Try to go barefoot if possible, makes it easier to gauge if the sand is too hot for doggy feet.

You may also want to bring a towel for sitting on, not just for paw cleaning, it's great to be able to take a break from walking. Beach umbrella or some form of shade can be a relief as well.

Don't forget sunglasses and a nice hat, the sun and sand can be murder on the eyes over time.

Bring a drink for yourself, the pups aren't the only ones needing to keep hydrated.

If it is a popular dog beach, be prepared for off leash dogs running up to you. Make sure you have a means of keeping distance if your pup or the loose dog shows signs of distress or aggression.

Most of all, have fun and take lots of pictures!!

May I ask where you got the floating rope?! That's actually a really good idea. I was just going to get a black/regular rope, but if I can find the one you got, that'd be even better. Yeah, Juneau has no recall whatsoever. Bratty teenage phase, I tell ya!

Thanks for your tips! It's actually just a regular beach in Galveston, but we're driving waaay down south. There's hardly anyone in the spot where we are. And the nearest gas station is about 20 mins away.

I always go barefoot! I'll definitely make sure it's not too hot for her though.

Sorry to butt in but would suggest the same for going to a river with the pups? We are using regular 20' leashes from walmart right now but will be looking into a marine rope. Unfortunately with one dog aggressive pup we cant do a doggie beach but are going to try a few trips to the river down the block from us.
