| Hi husky community, I have my 5 1/2 month old husky male puppy who has this huge fear for SOME people. After observing for a while, he is mainly scared of people who reach out to him or make baby calling noises at him. I understand that I am to ignore his fear behavior and not comfort him when he hides behind me; but this is become a problem during walks. Just last week he was scared by a man who reached out for him suddenly and he jumped back and somehow manage to slip out of his collar. He was dashing off on the street during decently heavy traffic and thank god that i manage to catch him in the middle of the street without getting hit. This was pretty traumatic for me as I nearly lost him and I need some sort of help to alleviate his fear of people. P.S. He is not afraid of people who ignore him, in fact, he walks up to them and sniffs them. Photo of him for funs. Â |

| You should try and ask people to give him treats when they try and come in contact with him. That way, he can associate being pet and coming in contact with people as a good thing. |

| I've tried doing that already D: what happens is that he just snaps up the snack they offer and returns to hide behind me, or just ignores the treat altogether. |

| We had this problem with Bode until he was 6-7 months old. No matter what we did with positive association training, he was just shy. I was really worried about it. He ended up growing out of it for the most part. He is still weary of some people, but he's much friendlier and inquisitive when we come upon random strangers.
I'd say keep doing as much positive association as you can and expose him to as many different people as you can. |
