| It seems each year the city puts down more and more salt on the roads. This salt quickly dries out pads and leads to cracking and unfortunately bleeding as experienced by some family memebers. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for waterproof boots. We are currently using Muttluks which are great, and unless really wet keep moisture out, we're looking at getting a second pair and wanted to know if there were any other suggestions which might be better. Typically away from the salt, we don't use boots, but just Musher's Secret (yep on our Labradoodle!). Cordura seems to be quite water resistant which might do the trick from a material stand point.
From looking through the forum, seems that the following are quite popular:

| i love dog booties cause of the cost, you will LOSE them! im not sure if i have the 1000, 500, or 350 for the snow (i want to say the 350)... i will tell you the heaver the material the more stiff they are when it is cold and snowing out and the softer material works better. i have the toughtrek for our summer hiking on the rough rock. i have the velstretch closer _________________ |

| THANK YOU! I didn't even think about the stiffness. We're in cold spell right now (-25C to -30C with the windchill). I was 100% sure thicker the better but you are absolutely right, I don't want walking to be difficult, so I will definitely forget the 1000.
The price is great! How do you find the quality? Durable? |

| We used to have these for our shih tzu. I bought a set for our husky this year, but haven't taken them out yet. They are great for a quick walk where there is a lot of salt. Our shih tzu did not like wearing boots at all, but these ones, he would wear because they are very thin and don't restrict them in any way. They come 12 in a box too, and are "disposable". Relatively cheap too so when you lose one, it's not the worst thing http://pawzdogboots.com/ |

| James, we tend to lose them before they wear out! ( i dont seem to put them on tight enough for fear of cutting off blood but i really think thats a me issue then a boot issue!) they used to offer them in a taller height and i wish i would have gotten those. i would order at least 6 to start off with, that way you have extra, i order 10 at a time since i have 2. they are great for side walk walking i used to use them snowshoeing but in the deep snow they seem to fall off more then on a packed trail. i use musher secret for our snow hiking over booties. _________________ |

| Thanks Maggie - I've seen these in the shops around here - and was unsure of how they held up. Might give them a try for earlier spring time - when its super wet, slushy, salty, and generally kinda gross out. I think they'd be perfect!
Jennifer - Awww so cute! Great idea buying extra's - I also love the idea that you don't have to buy multiples of 4 - to account for the lost boots. Your snowfall looks like our snow fall amounts - We are going to give these a try for Paige. Paige has the lab feet - much larger then the poodle feet. However generally a bit smaller (at least so far) when compared to her husky friends. What size do you usually get for a reference point? |

| Ah okay excellent! This is Paige's normal winter get up - on cold days like today (currently feels like -27C) she gets a sweater, a coat, and her boots. On warmer days skip the sweater. Because of her fur type she needs a coat/sweater. She was also in full motion here, sorry about the blur, picture is about 20 minutes old. |
