So I am new here and I posted a problem with my new ten week old husky and his food aggression. When I was adding food to his bowl he growled and nipped and I thought it was only a minor problem with a little training it could be fixed . But today my three year old was playing under the table about two feet from his food bowl and he ran over growling and got on her back but I reacted so fast he didn't have a chance to bite her. Than five minutes later he jumped on her and bit her shoulder(without drawing blood) will training be able to fix this? It horrifies me to think of him getting bigger and hurting her

He's also always biting every chance he gets ,in the face, hands, head I redirect him and I figure its because of teething?

She was just under the dinner table playing as usual whem lunch/snacks are being prepared. I understand she needs to know not to mess with him and stay away while he's eating but he was two feet away and she wasn't messing with him, he just ran over and got on her . I don't want to have to worry about my daughter walking by him and getting attacked because she's walking by. I just need to know if this is something that training can correct.and five minutes later he jumped and bit her for no reason, their was no food around.

Pick up the bowl, then there is nothing for him to protect. The first step is prevention. Smile

Agree on prevention. My dogs get fed 2 times a day (loki still 3). Keep working with him on food aggression but have baby in other room. My dog lexi was food aggressive as puppy and we kept toddler away from her food for long time until dog was under control and child was a little older. I never had issues. Took few weeks to fix food aggression issue.

Feed your puppy in their crate. If you don't have one- get one. You'll need it. Anytime there is food around (human or canine) put your puppy up in their crate, preferably in another room. Food in general could be a big stimulus for your pup.

That being said- Huskies can be rough. Even biting and jumping roughy. Especially if they didn't have a good puppyhood. Are you sure it was aggressive? The second time around? Because them jumping on and nipping IS something that happens with wild puppies with no bite inhibition. If it wasn't an "aggressive" thing it will be much easier to work with in regards to your child.

And I'm just putting this out there so please don't take offence- a lot of us in FL are very connected with rescue- if worst comes to worst do not drop him at a shelter or on craigslist- there are a great amount of us who can help.

I Was honest in coming here saying I didn't know anything about his breed, I don't want to get rid of him I'm willing to learn and try to give him the best life I can. With my previous dog (pitbull) I had never seen any type of aggression like that (or rough play if that's what it is) with my daughter he was so gentle around her so it just suprises me he was like that. I'm already looking into good trainng for him .

Yeah. Do not get rid of him. My female lexi was similar with food when I got her at 12 weeks. She is so wonderful now and does not care if people are around her while she eats or if we pick up her food. I used hand feeding technique. Maybe once he is good with you, you can do hand feeding with child closer and closer . Just work on food aggression away from child to start.

My lab was a big dopey clumsy thing until 2. We were always scared of him knocking layla down when she was young. She was 1.5 years old when we got him. She is now 13 and my lab has been her best friend her whole life. All dogs can be rough when young and any breed can have food aggression.
