So Okami is extremely perfect. I love her personality, she is goofy and fun and really well balanced- When it is just me my fiance my kid and my fiance's dad.

When we have company, Okami jumps runs around in circles "mouths" people (she doesn't bite ever, but she likes to put her mouth on people)

I always first try to correct her with a sharp, "No" or stomp on the floor. It is as if I do not exist. So I capture her and lay her down gently and calm her down, which seemed to work for a while and she would give up. But as of recent, the second I feel like she snapped out of it and I let her up it is back to the original freak out.

So the only way to maintain her outbursts to go back to perfect dog I have to put her on the leash or crate her or put her on the line outside. (Of course calmly or with one of her toys or something I don't want her to think I am putting her away linked to company so it doesn't turn into a punishment.)

She still does this when my company has been over many times or even stayed over for a few days, it is as if she can't get used to them or she feels like she has to be everyone's best friend and pushy about it. I am glad she is not being aggressive, but the fact is that it is embarrassing that my company has to see me deal with my dog jumping and mouthing and flipping out before I can even say hi. I just want her to maintain her perfect state of mind when no one is here so I can prove that I have an awesome dog.

Also I would like to add, when I am at someone Else's house and visit people, she is well mannered (for the most part) especially if they have dogs to distract her. And at the house that I normally go to to visit at one time there is up to 20 people and up to 4 other dogs. And she is very well behaved in those conditions, so I know it would seem there may be a territorial thing at play since she only acts this way at home.


Sorry for the book, I hope someone can give me some advice on how to approach this differently because the things I have tried that don't involve bad corrections haven't worked.

Kenzi does something similar. When new people first come over she gets excited and wants to jump. I hold her and have everyone greet her first thing so she can get the curious jitters out of the way and then she settles and is fine to be let loose with everybody, but at first she just has to see everybody and approve them since the house is her territory. Like your dog she's perfectly fine at other peoples houses. I sometimes give her a really nice treat when someone arrives so she is occupied with it and will leave people alone. I think she just gets caught up in the excitement of everyone greeting everyone. Some people tend to talk in a higher voice when first seeing someone and there might be hugging that's a new behavior and she wants to be a part of it. Kenzi has a my house my rules kind of attitude that we have to curb.

Juneau is the SAME way. She doesn't jump on me or my boyfriend when we come home, but she goes batshit crazy when we have company. She LOVES people and attention, so I try to take her out every Saturday to a local car show so she can get some socialization lol. I think taking multiple trips to the dog park might help as well. Plenty of people to sniff and play with. She will jump on them too though, so be careful with that.

Mishka is the same. I usually have to gate him off in the kitchen when people come to the house. I let them greet him (try to wait until he has calmed down slightly) and just have them sort of ignore him until he gets over his over excitement. Then I'll let him out to check everyone out and try to lay down the law. I cannot stand it when he jumps up on people, so I try to keep a leash on him to stop him from jumping up.

When my mom comes over though, it's another story. He goes BERSERK. He whines and cries and gets all happy tail and jumps and everything. My fiance had to drag him away and put him in the kitchen just so my mom could get in the door. It was insane (I wasn't there to witness it though).

My girls go crazy when we have company over, they don't jump on me but they will jump on everyone else in the house because they allow it. I tell them not to because i want the girls to not jump on people but they ignore me. I also tell our company to ignore them when they go crazy but they ignore me too....

Link will do this too. It sucks having to be so serious to people all the time but I always do what I can to prepare people for meeting Link and try to get them on board to what protocol is best.

It is the most natural reaction in the world for people to get super excited and riled up when meeting a cute puppy/dog and by being responsible we have to be a buzz kill. Not fun.

I do find thought that when it works and Link is calm and well behaved because everyone around him is calm and well behaved then they are not only smitten with his adorableness but they are also so impressed with how he behaves Then you get some love in addition to the pup.

But yes, it does get tiring preparing people all the time. Ugh.

Training people is harder than training dogs! Lol.

Haha, yep. Dogs are just easier. They behave better. They smell better. The are easy to please....this could go on forever

Well I guess I am glad I am not alone! Thanks for the insight on some new things to try, but in the end I foresee me just having to prevent then fix it, it is just a husky thing.
