He quietly slipped away from us at about 5pm on the 14th of May 2013.
Although his was a short life that never reached its completion... these short months have made our lives so much richer and fuller. Odin, with his tiny 'angel wings' on his back, had always been our guardian angel. He was a champ even without winning any medals. He was the best dog one could ever have...

So sorry for your loss, that's really sad he did not get to have a long life. But at least he had a full one with you.

Thanks so much everyone for such kind words.
Looking back now, I could only conclude that Odin has loved us all his life without any condition whatsoever. And one of my greatest regret was that I did not spend enough time and energy, to deserve such love.
Let this be a lesson: do not neglect the people and dog who love us, and if you love, do so fully, unconditionally. Even as my dog loved me like all dogs would love its owners, I remind myself that we have to love with all our hearts.
All these were the things Odin, in all his simple self, showed me. To me, he was not just a dog, but a companion, a friend, a teacher. Unexpectedly, he has taught me so much more about life than I ever could ask for.
I hope all of you will have a fulfilling life with your dogs

According to the vet, Odin most probably contracted a viral disease called Leptospirosis.
This bacterial disease impairs kidney function and is spread by contact with the urine of infected animals. Signs include poor appetite, lethargy, vomitting, depression, muscle pain and sometimes seizures, diarrhea or bloody urine. When the symptoms show, it might just be too late.
He was not eating, he was not drinking. He was neither happy nor active. In fact, when the blood test showed that his insides were in very bad condition, the doctor said a normal human being would have been shrieking out in pain. But he was quiet.
In the veterinary hospital, where he was put on drips, Odin showed a brave and stoic front and fooled all of us into thinking he could get better. He could even sit up straight and walked with us. We did not know that he was about to die, but he knew.
I believe that he did it out of love, that he could not bear to see us sad.
Whatever it was, Odin passed away in his sleep that fateful day. Doctors said that his liver and kidney had failed and simply shut off.

Oh my this was so very sad! I am so very sorry for your loss. I know exactly how it feels my 10 week old puppy died of Parvo, and it was the worst experience ever.
It's so hard to say good bye to these little guys, but the time you did spend with them is the most valuable time ever, and will be the best memories. I pray for you and family.

Sorry to hear this and to know you tried everything in the end to help him. we get S&J the Lepto shot to prevent this from happening when they are out hiking with us and drink from the streams.
