Hi, everyone! We live in Tampa Bay, Fl, and I'm thinking of taking my 10 year old husky, Eshe, out standup paddleboarding. He loves the water and we go out to the dog beach all the time and I think this might be something we could do together. I've taken lessons and I'm really enjoying it and I want to spend quality time with him on the water. I'm thinking of getting a board and getting him a doggie life vest and trying it out. Has anyone ever taken their dog out to do SUP? How did it work for you? I would appreciate any advice or tips! Thanks!

I'm looking forward to doing this next time I'm at the lake.  I took Harry out on a blow up floatie last time we were there and even though he's not the biggest fan of water, he loved it.  I'm hoping that he can remain as still (motionless) on a paddle board as he did on the floatie.  I might try an open Kayak first though, just in case he moves around a bit and I need more stability.  With the floatie, I was able to keep him in my lap and he just looked around with a smile at the ducks floating by. Let us know how it turns out.  This is definitely on my list.

Sure thing, Jason! My husband and I are practicing with a longboard in our yard. We currently have the longboard on the ground letting Eshe sniff it and starting the command to get on it. I'm working on getting him to stay and having him sit or lay down for a few minutes at a time while I'm on the other end of the board. I've ordered his doggie life vest so what I'm thinking of doing is maybe do a kayak first per your suggestion or just take the longboard to a lake and have him practice getting on and off and staying close to shore. I'll probably get a SUP next month, but in the meantime at least he will start getting use to being on a board. He loves jumping in the water which may be a problem since he's about 70lbs and I'm not sure I'll be able to lift him out of the water hence doing the stay command while we're on the lawn. Once we get going, I'll post pictures.

Btw, Harry is beautiful!!
