| So I recently started to notice that Siku was gaining what I thought was to much weight so I've started his little diet. He was always around 53-55 lbs and thats where I wanted him to stay but I think since the summer has begun he has gained about 5 lbs maybe even a little more (he hasn't been weighed for awhile) since his exercise has reduced because of the heat. He was never much of an eater but picked up an appetite probably in the last 6 months where we have been feeding the honest kitchen and orijen. So lately I have been feeding him 1/2 cup of the honest kitchen, about a cup of Orijen at night, and some Zukes or Honest Kitchen treats during the day. But at night, he goes to his bowl after his one cup and continues to ask for more food. I don't know if I should give him a little more, or if I should stand my ground, and not give in. Where this diet is new, I'm not completely sure if I'm now under feeding him. The bag of Orijen says he should have 2 cups a day, and the honest kitchen is like 2-3 cups a day I think, but I know a lot of that isn't what I should be actually doing. He has had his appropriate tests done, so I don't think its a medical concern. How much do you guys feed your huskies a day to maintain a proper weight? I don't want a chunky unhealthy husky, and I will change his food intake once we up the exercise more in the Fall, this is more for the summer diet. |

| I'd stand your ground. That feeding amount for Orijen and THK combined sounds fine for an adult sibe. When I fed THK and kibble I was feeding 1 cup THK combined with 1/4 cup kibble.
My boy has gained weight this summer from decreased exercise too and he's eating 1 cup kibble with 1/4 cup Grandma Lucy's. And he acts like he's starving at all times...which he's obviously not since he put on a good 6 lbs! You can feed some low calorie filler foods to help Siku feel fuller such as baby carrots or green beans. They'll help him feel more satisfied without adding much weight. _________________ |

| Thanks! He has never really asked to eat before, so I'm glad to know that he is most likely fine with what I am currently feeding! We can barely get a mile in every day now for a walk since he just gets so hot, this is even in the morning or late in the evening, he just doesn't want to move and its definitely starting to show, so cutting back was necessary. I'll keep doing what I'm doing with the much smaller limits, and monitor his weight hopefully he will be back to his normal weight soon! |

| I feed my pups only about a 1 1/2 food a day they do get treats a couple of times a day. In fact they skip or only eat about 1/2 what I feed them yet.... they both have gain about 5 pounds too much the last few months since it has gotten hot. I give them baby carrots and green beans with their food but my male will not eat them. |
