| Lana is about 18 months old and yesterday I noticed she had a deep dark stool and she was having difficulty standing. I rushed her to the vet, they drew blood what little they could and immeidatley started her on IV fluids. Blood test results somewhat inconclusive. RBC EXTREMELY low .88 M/µL (low end of normal is 5.5-8.5) WBC normal, and Albumins low.
Vet is thinking autoimmune or blood parasite, but can't be for sure because her blood is so thin he can't see much on the blood slide.
Started medications of Doxylin and Predisone, but they still aren't sure whats going on with her. Independent lab results come in tomorrow sometime.
Anyone have something like this happen before? |

| Blood tests today showed no improvement....WBC now sky rocketed to 55.4k/µL....RBC still low....Vet doesn't know what to do. Xrays normal, Fecal shows no signs of blood or parasites, test show she is hypothyroid...Vet suggested a specialist but believes this may be fatal. |

| You are in ohio? I think you may want to consider a trip to MSU. |

| I am sorry, what a heart breaking situation. I would try to seek a 2nd opinion, what kind of specialist is the vet suggesting? |

| Some kind of auto immune specialist, But today she seemed much more perky than the past few days, scheduled for a blood transfusion. This will buy us another 3 weeks to figure this out. |

| This morning CBC shows some sign of hope, RBC doubled, but still low, HCT is now showing 10%, before is was 0, and PLT is high. Went ahead with transfusion anyway. She will be coming home tomorrow and then more tests through out the week. |

| So sorry you guys have been going through this, we've gone through a pretty bad health crisis with Shadow as well in the last couple weeks. I hope the transfusion works for you guys and you are able to get some answers and a treatment plan. _________________ Shadow's Blog Canine Hydrocephalus Support on Facebook "Being the parent of a special-needs pet means living your life constantly poised on the edge of a double-edged sword. | She is alot better today, But still don't have a diagnosis. The vet is waiting for a call back from MSU. Should be bringing her home today, but will be going back for tests over the next few weeks. |
