we will probably be moving to an apartment from a rental house in the fall. Right now Kiba yips and barks LOUDLY if she's in her crate and we're home. If she hears us, she will bark. if we are quiet, she won't make a peep b/c she doesn't know we are there. That being said my concern is having neighbors who make noise during the day in an apartment will probably set her off. Any suggestions for training her to NOT freak out when she's in the crate and hears people in neighboring apts?

Also does it throw them off if you move the location of their crate? I may move her to our living room because i want her to like the crate more but if its going to cause her stress then im afraid to do it. Im willing to try anything to get her to be "okay" with her crate when we are home (or at least when she *thinks* we are home).

I moved Dizzy's and he didn't have any issues. As for the apartment thing, I think it might set her off to begin with, but I think eventually she'll realize that there is no one in 'her' place and will give up. Just warn your neighbors when you move in. Also, she might respond to your voice or your footsteps, I think they can differentiate between your family and strangers. Or you could also redo some crate training exercises with her with you home.

Then I think I'll try and move her crate as part of a step towards positive crate training so the room she's in is more of a family room. As for the noise in an apartment, I know some people are understanding of dogs, I'm just afraid of that one ahole who will complain the second day we move in about her barking during the day. I don't want to get kicked out or have enemies -I just want a smooth transition and it worrys me a lot
