| Hello! First I would like to thank everyone on this site and for their help and I am going to continue using it throughout Balto's life if I need help! It's nice to have somewhere where you can get help with a specific problem and not just a generic site saying the same things over and over.
Now, I was only wondering if it is possible to leash train a 13 week old puppy, it's not like he is bad on the leash, just pulls like any puppy would out of excitement. I was talking to my boyfriend and he said that he may just be too young which I kind of agree with but was wondering if there was a way to maybe start training him or if not what age would be best to train him. He loves water and I want to be able to trust him enough and have enough control over him so he is allowed to go swimming.
Thanks! |

| For swimming I would recommend a long lead, like a 50ft one. For normal walking, well he's a husky and they pull, its natural for them. I would invest in a walking harness, I have the easy walk, which is all right but it could be better. There are a couple other brands used by other members on here that are much better. Carry treats with you when you walk him and treat him when he walks beside you. This teaches him where you want him to be during walks. Remember, at this age, he should be walking about five minutes for every month of age he is, so at 13 weeks he should be walking about 15 minutes. Good luck! |

| For swimming, we just use a braided nylon rope from the hardware store. That way we don't have to worry about ruining an expensive lead.
And it's never too early to start training! |

| My mom was getting comments on how well her 11 week old puppy was walking on leash. Angel knows how to put on a good show. In all seriousness, she shows it can be done. I think she's motivated by sheer energy and wanting to go to interesting places. Angel's still teething a bit and will start chewing the leash like a brat. Balto, of course, may train a little differently. Still, you should be able to rock the leash with a little patience and time. Go for it! |
