| So ever since we have had loki (now 7 months, got him around 3) he has had runny or very soft poos of a more yellowish color,, very smelly! After visiting many pet stores I found one that had knowledgable staff, they gave me a small bag of grain and chicken free food to try. OMG! His poo is normal brown and stiff and not runny at all, still kinda stinky but WOW. So i was just wondering if anyone else' pups have had allergies or this issue? And things to avoid and whatnot! |

| My female has an intolerance to grain and chicken unless it's freeze dried, dehydrated or raw. There are a few of us that have pets that are allergic to grain and chicken, and even potato. Val's Dakota is even allergic to fish. _________________ |

| What kind of food was it? Im at of ideas at this point with my pup. I even took a stool sample to the vet and it came back negative for any parasites (thank goodness) they gave her antibiotics and they helped BIG TIME, but shes been off of them for two days and now its just back to the same thing I'm thinking it could be an allergy. |

| Yuki's allergic to chicken, raw or in kibble. She was already on a grain-free diet so now I've got her on a salmon diet from totw. I've noticed I have to watch out for any food that has 'chicken meal' in it too, just that one ingredient and her allergies are set off. |

| My sibe can't have rice or fish at all, in any form. Beef he cannot tolerate in kibble, canned, treat, dehydrated, or any processed form, but he does just fine on raw beef. _________________ |

| Phoenix can't handle chicken in kibble or canned meat. He was on lamb and rice food from the breeder but we gradually swapped him to the same food as Sky ( grain free chicken) and OMG toilet trips were awful. The shop had a money back offer on the food so it went back and we did a quick change to fish. Even with the rapid change there was a great improvement in 2 days.
Both of them are now on totw pacific strem and are doing great. |

| New the site and thrilled to find it loaded with so much good info. Kodi (our 4 month old male) is coming along nicely on all fronts, but have a concern in this "poo" area. :-) His stools can be absolutely fine for 2 or 3 days, then he'll have a couple of days of "soft serve ice cream" consistency (sorry for the analogy, but the best I can come up with to describe it!). :-)
He's getting about 5 cups IAMS Pro Active Health Smart Puppy Large Breed (Does the name really imply anything?) broken up across three feeding during the day. He's fine in all other regards, health checks at the Vet are fine. Mentioned this to them though and they suggested antibiotic, but also to try a couple of tablespoons of liquid Pepto (worked well it seemed) first. Did that for a couple of days and stools were fine for quite a while after that so not sure how long that "treatment" lasted.
Stools are formed, but like I mentioned soft serve, with little specs in it (stool sample test was negative).. So, we're confused.. does this sound like wheat allergy? Appreciate any thoughts.. Like I said, otherwise everything healthwise is fine.. Coat is excellent, energy and sleeping good, etc..
Thanks! |

| I had the same problem with Maya! I was feeding her the same food and everything! Her poo had white flecks in it as well and would go between solid, mushy and running. Her stool sample came back negative for parasites. I switched her food to Blue Buffalo and reduced the size of her meals and fed her multiple times throughout the day shes doing a whole lot better now! |

| Thanks for the reply.. I should have mentioned that the specs in the stool are very much the same color and size as the specs in his kibble, which leads me to believe that whatever those specs are (grain?) are not getting digested at all, and just getting passed through. Heard mixed reviews about Blue Buffalo.. which one are you using and how much a day? Kodi is a little over 4 months and a very muscular 40 pounds, very solid.. so he seems to be doing well on the IAMS. - aprunyon wrote:

| We switched Kodi to a 50/50 mix of the IAMs he was on, with Taste of the Wild (the Salmon one).. What a huge difference even with it being on a 50/50 mix. Stools have been perfectly normal, solid, formed, etc. Not sure we'll continue to mix Taste of the Wild with some going forward (we wanted to ease the change over), but it made a huge difference.. Wonder how he'll like the Bison flavor! :-) His coat seems to have a nicer look as well.. perhaps the fish oils? Will let folks know how things progress but for now, it seems that TOTW did the trick.. |

Yuki does great with the pacific stream flavor, but the bison has chicken meal in it and Yuki had a reaction to it, so just watch how he does if you switch flavors as he may be like Yuki and can only tolerate pacific stream which has no chicken whatsoever However Cloud and Link are on the bison flavor and they both love it! Glad its working for you. It worked for us! |
