| So an aunt of mine had a year old husky in her house that she gave to us because she could never take care of him. My aunt gave the dog to us because of family problems so she had to move. When we got the dog he looked like a very nice dog. We took him home and he was very nice to the other dogs. He is very respectful towards humans, the house, other dogs, etc. Thankfully, this dog is not very energetic and he is very calm. The problem with this dog is that he does not recognize me as his master. I think I can relate this back to the fact the he grew up tied to a post and feel independent. I know he loves his home, but he has been escaping the house a couple of times. That is not my REAL problem. My problem is that he does not respond to anyone. For example, if I ever want him to go in the house, I have to get his leash. And he does not come to me every to me every time I call him. ( or anyone else for that matter.) He is just not a dog that responds to anyone. Is there any way that could help him grow closer to me? Thanks |

| Huskies are a very independent breed. If he hasn't been taught to come when called then he probably doesn't know what you're saying. Dogs don't inherently speak English after all. We're speaking gibberish until we teach them what we want when we say something. It has very little to do with viewing you as his master. For instance, I could've taught my dog to sit when I say "potato" and it wouldn't make any difference to him!
You need to teach him to come to you and there has to be a reason for him to come to you. Pick a word or phrase to use when you want him to come to you. Every time you say it reward him with a treat. EVERY time. Start in the house so there's little room for him to choose to ignore you. Once he's mastered the command in the house, do it outside on a long line. Once he's mastered it on the long line you can try offlead. But you MUST reward and praise EVERY time you call and he comes. You will condition him to come when called. For starters, it works best to call the dog when they're already looking at you, not focusing on something else.
As far as getting him to grow closer to you, going for walks, playing, and training are all very good ways to grow a bond. |

| I guess that's right. But I still believe that I need to bond with him more and I can't seem to find a way how to. I try to play with him and etc. |

| How often do you take him for walks? That's a great bonding experience for a dog. Working on obedience training is also a great way to bond, strengthening the handler-dog relationship. It helps the two learn how the other communicates and clear communication is key for any dog-owner relationship. |

| Not very often. My neighbourhood is not very fit for walking a dog but I will try to give him some more walks

| Like dahowlers said walks, playing, training excersizes. My two bonded better with us when we started training treating for everything, and especially petting them. They were strays and not used to human contact so getting them used to petting really helped and they learned to love it quickly, now they'll sit on us and we cant get them off without lots of cuddles first. I think the best things is finding something he really likes which may take a while, im still not sure with my two, and us that as a factor to get him hyped up

| You can also try feesing him his meals out of your hand to show him you feed him. |
