| So as I was leaving petsmart last night I saw a pick-up parking and what looked like a husky inside. so being the starker I am I took my time getting to my car and waited until the lady and dog got out to start backing out. it sure looked like a husky but it was so small, I rolled down my window and said is that a husky? she said it was a miniature husky http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miniature_Siberian_Husky but they are also know as a http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alaskan_Klee_Kai I said how cute and drove off. I will say the dog was yappy and hyper like all small dogs and it was only 15 months old. now after reading both descriptions of the 2 different dogs I wonder if the lady knows there is a difference in the 2 breeds and I wonder what one she really had... wish I had ran into her in the store to talk more with her as I have some questions, have any of you had a run in with a miniature of either breed? _________________

| I think my roxy could be a mini as she is only 25 lbs and they started breeding them in my state. Maybe this is why she is so petite |

| I have just read this post and I agree with Tori - we have had this discussion before on another forum. Breeders of these dogs are just people messing around breeding huskies with smaller breeds trying to create another 'designer' breed and charging people a fortune for the puppies. As Harrise said pointless!!! |

FYI - My old boss has one and they're not bread with Huskies... so they're technically not messing with the Husky breed. Much like Miniature Pinschers look like Pinschers, they aren't actually bred with Pinschers either. Miniature Huskies are exactly the same. They're not actually bred with huskies, they're just bred to look like them. _________________ Posts made by me are not associated or approved by itsahuskything.com. Source The first paragraph in context tells me enough about the original intentions of creating this "breed". |

| Sorry to rehash such an old topic - but what are people's views on the Miniature Husky (not a Klee Kai). I've found some pages here that apparently describe what they are. The one from the examiner seems overly happy and biased towards the dogs, but that could also just be my perception coming in....

| Yes, its interesting it says they purposely bred them smaller because many people find normal huskies too hard to handle. I'm pretty sure it's not the size that most people find difficult about huskies. |

| I do too... I totally disagree with it, but there's this woman on FB who is going to get one (pregnancy of the bitch was just confirmed - to be born end of July), and I'm finding it hard to word a response without coming off as a snotty idiot... =\ |

| We met up with a friend and her pit bull yesterday for a beer at a pub and we saw 2 mini huskies, and I don't think they were klee kais because they were even smaller, as in a pomeranian or yorkie dressed up in a husky outfit.
I overheard the human say miniature huskies at one point, and everyone was coming up to Link asking me if he was a miniature...like it was the newest fad in town and I was gonna be the next inductee into the fan club bandwagon...it was that frenzied. I said, of course, that "no, he's just a puppy." To which they responded "but how can he be a real Husky when he's so small, they're giants yeah?" At 6 months Link was easily 3 times bigger than these little minis.
Sigh.
But, I have never seen the minis before, and it kinda grossed me out for some reason. I was just kinda cringing and was in some way embarrassed for them or something, it was strange. I had the oddest feeling about them. It's just an aesthetic gimmick. If you want a toy dog, then get a toy dog. That's how I feel about it. At least they were touching the ground, unlike most toy dogs I see around town. |

| I think they're just the next breeder craze....like the yorkipoo, labradoodle and pomski they just want a reason to sell a "mutt" for a few extra hundred dollars |

| Ha, I didn't even think of them as a Designer Breed, perfect, good call.
The tagline for the website for these should be: Screw the standard and sledding, they're AAADDDOOORRRAAABBBLLLEEE!!! |

| Heck around here they are asking over $2000.00, I don't find them attractive at all. As puppies they are cute, but as adults they don't look right to me. |

| Amen, i find them just.... ugly. I hate them and not in the "because they're toy dogs" its because its not a beautiful dog, if i wanted a cute fluffy toy dog I'd have taken the AKC papillion i was offered for FREE. but i chose my "huge" husky for a reason. |

No comment necessary. I would like to shoot this person in the head. This is enough to make me want to do it, let alone her damn "puppy packs" /barf - Quote :
A lot of people do not realize all the time and money a GOOD Breeder has to put into their dogs and puppies. We are talking the extremely high cost of Medications ( Flea , De - Worming, Antibiotics, Shampoos, Heartworm Preventive) And then there are Food and water bowls (Adults and Puppies all get their own ), Cleaning supplies ( Paper Towels , Towels, Mops, Brooms, Spray Bottles, Cleaning Chemicals) , Crates, Fencing, Grooming Supplies to keep the dogs in good condition coat wise, And of coarse the ever growing price of Dog and puppy Food. Not to mention how much TIME everything takes!!! Cleaning, cleaning, cleaning cleaning!!!!! CONSTANTLY!! lol
I love how she refers to herself as a "good" breeder... |
