Hi everyone! My name is Melinda. Me and my fiancé just got a beautiful two year old husky three days ago from a rescue. It was a huge step for me since I had to put my dog of 17 years down two years ago. I had all this built up puppy love ready to give. In the last few days my husky "Bella" has been great. I am a huge clean freak and knew how much they shed so that is taking some getting used to. I am also getting used to being followed around all the time. My other dog the one I had to put Dow "Corgi/American Eskimo mix never did that .lol. We live in an apartment but are active runners..bikers...hikers..So Bella will be outside often.Just wondering if anyone had advice for a new owner. Thanks so much.

Welcome to the forum! Congrats on rescuing! Bella sounds like shes going to have a great new start with you guys I'd just read Huskies 101 stickied in the top right box and go through some of those threads.

Congrats on adopting Bella. I think it just takes time with a rescue there are alot of topics on huskies and issues. We adopted our second husky at 2 years old it has been a year now and we have had our ups and downs but she is really become a member of our family. It just takes time and work on the training.

Whoa that pic came out big. That is my Bella! It has been three days and I adore her. I have OCD with cleaning so I am finding myself vacuuming twice a day . That takes some getting used to . If anyone can help me and let me know how I can change my profile aviator I would appreciate it .

Thank You All. I was wondering if any of you had allergy symptoms when you first got your Husky. I have had Bella for 3 days and I have found myself with a stuffy nose and itching now and then. Again, I owned a dog for 17 years and never once had a problem . I was just wondering if it is normal sometimes with Huskies.

I just want to say congrats on your new sibe. We rescued our first in 2001 and it took some learning curves but we totally fell in love with the breed. You asked about the allergies...we have allergy problems when they blow their coats which always falls during high pollen seasons. I also know that when the pups come in from outside they are carrying additional pollen on their coats. I think that the shedding aggravates other allergy problems.
I wish you luck on keeping of with the fur. It does lessen during the peek of summer and dead of winter for us.

Thanks! I brush her everyday and that helps.. Just not sure why I am itching .. I adore her . First trip to the park and her foster mom said she didn't like water .. She jumped right in the lake.. So much fun!

Welcome! I have found that brushing everyday keeps the carpet fuzz down quite a bit. You and I are the same on the neat freak bit and vacuum twice a day haha... but you'll get used to it, as they say, "Once you do something 14 times it is now a habit." Your husky is beautiful, bless you both!
