Hello there, hope you're all having a nice morning.
This summer, I'm spending more time with my parents, and bringing along my 4 month old for the ride. My dad has a dog, but she is too old/fat/lazy to play/put up with my girl Astrid, and growls / becomes snappy when Astrid antagonizes, so they have to stay separated. She is a 100% outside dog while at my dads. Before, I would often let her in for play, but would bring her out immediately if she peed or pooped inside. Now I don't really have a way to show her that peeing and pooping is bad inside, so I'm not sure how to go about continuing to try to housebreak her. I do praise her whenever I see her peeing/pooping outside. She can't handle a crate whatsoever, and in trying to be a good house guest, I can't subject anyone to the constant whining that comes with trying to enclose her. Besides an endless fascination with eating plants and digging on occasion, she is well behaved having free reign of the yard (and has quickly earned the nickname Houdini!).
My second option is my boyfriend's, where three dogs of varying size are all housebroken and have free reign of the house and yard. I haven't let her come here often because they have chickens, and she hasn't had all of her shots, so I'm worried about that. That would be a whole other environment to become acclimated to, as well. Basically opposite.
All in all, does anyone have any suggestions? Should I try classes for her? Give her more chances to make mistakes so I can correct them? I hope I'm not doing everything wrong.
