Well the blood work looks great, which is good but doesn't help us pinpoint the problem. Her white blood cell is normal, same for RBC and platelet count. All her other levels are also normal which rules out kidney or liver failure, big relief there.

So the vet thinks it is either neurological or possibly a spinal injury. She's leaning more towards a spinal issue due to Faith's spinal inflammation and the fact that we observed Faith lifting her feet up while sitting, pretty much an awkward, abnormal position that she's never done before...vet thinks she may be in pain which is causing her to do that.

She was very dehydrated due to not drinking since yesterday so they gave her subcutaneous fluids to rehydrate her since I opted to take her home rather than leave her overnight.

They also gave her a shot of Buprenorphine for pain in addition to Dexamethasone which is a steroid shot for the inflammation. We'll need to keep a close eye on her overnight and she goes back in the morning for a follow up with the vet, and we'll go from there. On a positive note, they retook her temp before we left and it was down to 102.2 F so her fever went down.

So begins what I suspect will be a very long night. Her follow up appt is scheduled for 10:20 am tomorrow.

sorry. Are you going to try to also make an apt. For a vet at another office or was the treatment today better then last time? Had she jumped off anything that could have messed up her back?

Thanks guys. This visit wasn't bad but that's probably because Faith was totally out of it. I still don't think I would go back after this gets resolved.

Hubby and I both have concerns over her making it through the night. She's been crying and weakly howling all evening and her breathing is not normal.

If it is a spinal injury, do you have ANY idea how it happened?

My chihuahua was having nearly all of the same symptoms with the exception that she was able to move her head but a ton of more vomiting. Ended up that the treat canned food I bought at Costco did her no good (I feed canned food as a treat).

Hopefully your pup only has a minor thing.

Honestly I have no clue, nothing's been out of the ordinary. She hasn't fallen, hasn't been bothered by Dakota or the little one. I am totally stumped. She did fall down the stairs a couple years ago, but that was years ago, I would think if that was it symptoms would have presented themselves long ago...but maybe I'm wrong.

I hoping everything gets better and she feels better in the morning. Has she ate anything yet or drank anything on her own since you brought her home?

Did you guys do anything different in the house with like cleaners or yard work or anytjing that she could be bothered by? I know they think its something wit spinal but still good worth thinking if anything at all is different in the house

Alex, I wish this were as simple as a food issue but the vet is quite sure this is not food related as I did ask about the possibility.

Eric, nope she's still not eating, drinking, walking, or even able to stand up on her own. Nothing new or done to the yard or house either, the vet went over all those possibilities as well.

Faith did not make it.

She had 2 seizures in the early morning hours. She had a heart attack during the second seizure and passed away.
