PostSubject: Keep Karli in your thought!!!   Keep Karli in your thought!!! EmptyThu May 30, 2013 3:38 pm

We had an accident yesterday. It was completely my fault. I was taking her to the dog park, and I had the window down. I never roll it all the way down, but yesterday I was not thinking. I was coming to a stop in front of the park and heard a thump and Karli squealing. I couldn't figure out why she was squealing til I realized she wasn't in the car anymore. She had fallen out of the window. Since it had taken me that long to figure it out, she got pulled about five feet. I lost it, I couldn't get her in the car fast enough. I rushed her to our vet. Thankfully, nothing is broken. They wanted to do xrays but she was putting weight on it and she laid on it. It is scratched up pretty badly and they gave us anti-inflammatories and antibiotics as well just as a precaution. She's still limping but she's does everything else normally. I'm just thankful that she's OK and I wont be rolling that window down anymore. Of course, she thought she was in trouble ( I have no idea why, but it took her a couple hours to stop acting like she had done something wrong) but she's fine now, even tried to wrestle with the hubby when he came home from lunch. Just pray for a fast healing.

I had similar experience when I was younger. My dad had taken my sister and I to a non-busy dead end street(we lived on a busy street at the time) to ride our bikes. So my dad unloaded our bikes and got back in the car and he decided to drive along side us. He had our dog with him in the car and left the window open a little too far, So she got excited seeing us riding our bikes and jumped out but my dad had her leash. I turned to she her choking, I dropped my bike and ran to her picking her up in my arms(she was a yorkie-bichon mix) and trying to see if she was ok. She was, but It has made me nervous every time I see a dog in a window.

Hope Karli gets better. She's too cute! I love you

P.S My sisters name is Karli

Hope she gets back to 100% soon. Glad it wasn't as bad as it could have been. I put Shaqua in a Seat belt. If you get one for her you could still roll the window down.

Thanks guys!!! She is MUCH better today. Luckily, she was in her harness and not her collar, so she didn't get choked (I had a hold of her leash.) She's not limping as badly and has more energy. I was wandering if I should put some neosporin on it. I have done it for my birds but I wasn't sure if she licked it off if that would be a problem or not. I would assume its nontoxic but who knows. The vet tech didn't seem to think it was a good idea.

I also changed her food from the salmon recipe to the duck one yesterday and good lord did she inhale that food like you wouldn't believe. I took that as a good sign. I'm going to look into those seat covers that have seat belts for her. No more heart attacks for me!

Some dogs do not do well w neosporin but there is a brand called polysporin that works. My vet says no neosporein but others say its okay. But they do try to lick it off or at least all of mine do.

I had to buy the pet version of neosporin for kiba when a friends dog bit her face. Cost about $3 at Kroger (which is a grocery store) but I think I've seen it at Walmart too. Hope she heals up quick!

Aw! Poor girl! I hope she feels better soon! I'm sure it was more traumatic for you then for her. Maybe she'll think twice before she tries to jump out the window again. I need to get one of those doggie seat belts too. Good luck!

Hope Karli heals up quickly.
(And your heart rate drops too.)

Roxy, do you walk her on a harness?
If so, you can clip the harness to a fastened seatbelt in the back seat with a carabiner.

Thanks everyone!!! Her limp is gone now and she's been licking it on and off so I think it itches which means its healing. We did go for a short walk yesterday and she enjoyed that so hoping we can get back into our normal routine this week. I'm just happy she's OK.
