Soon, not later than this spring 2013, we will welcome in our lives a few other foxes of ''unusual colors'', as well as some other lovely critters. We love animals! Here are the babies. Vixey, the Arctic fox (summer coat) Kai, our silver fox Kai and Nana (my associate's Aussie shepherd) Azur, the leopard gecko Fredy, the crested gecko Bisou, my smoke Foldex Tiana, my rescue kitty Tipi, the eldest of the family Minskin, my snowshoe colorpoint Cornish Rex (the love of my life) And that's it! These are my [current] loves! Here is Kira, the marble colored Red fox. (she passed away unfortunately, she belonged to my associate). This spring 2013, we will have one just like her, from the same mother too | Topic: Earthborn Holistic for Cats | mbarnard0429

First of all, super affordable. grain free was only 25.00 for 14lbs of food. COmpared to the 32.00 I was paying for 11lbs of BB, this is an amazing price.
Second, it has a resealable ziploc top!! I love this, because the cats go through food MUCH slower than dogs.
Third, the cats freaking loved it. I'm talking LOVED it - they even pulled a Delilah and picked the earthborn out of the BB.
So, there ya have it - its a pretty darn good food! | Topic: Besieged by Suicidal Cats- Updated | jalepeno

I live in the country and someone dumped two cats on my road. They seem to think my house would be a great place to live. They are sleeping on my porch and walking around my house all day mewing. I haven't fed them or induced them to stay.
Bodhi is going beserk! He tries to get out the screens at them. He paces back and forth between doors looking for the cats. I've got all the windows closed so he can't see them, but he still can hear them. I have "encouraged" them to leave by bringing him out on a leash. But it doesn't have any effect. They keep coming back.
I feel trapped. I can't leave for fear he'll injury himself trying to get at them from his dog run. The Humane Society says it's taking appointments for cat intake and the wait time is a month. Animal Control is 45 minutes away. They will take one cat a day. When I asked if I could bring one and my wife could bring one, they said no. The Oregon Cat Adoption Society makes the finder keep the cats in his own house until they are adopted. My one hope is a "cat lady" at the vets who says she "might" take them tomorrow if I pay for the vet examination.
I really am trying to do the compassionate, humane thing but it's hard. I am allergic to cats. I don't want them in my car If they stay here, either Bodhi or a coyote will eventually get them. Ideas? | Topic: Huskies and Cats Living Together | MGoBlue

| Search in: Miscellaneous Questions Subject: Huskies and Cats Living Together Tue Jun 19, 2012 10:57 am | Those of you that have both huskies and cats, how do they get along? Did your dog grow up from a puppy with cats or were they introduced later in their life (ie. if you adopted an older dog)? I know most people crate their dog when they are not supervised, but if you don't, do you separate you husky and cat when you aren't there or at night when you can't watch them?
We are preparing for a puppy and have one cat. He's been around my parent's Brittany spaniel and does fine, but I would never trust them alone together, mostly because their dog hasn't been raised with cats. I know some people who leave their dogs and cats alone together, but the idea makes me nervous because accidents happen in two seconds, and a dog is always going to be a dog. | Topic: Tortured Cats ? | brady.law

| Search in: General Discussions Subject: Tortured Cats ? Thu May 17, 2012 12:40 am | Got this in an e-mail from change.org...
"I can’t even imagine if my beloved cats suffered the same fate as Alley, Fiddle and Kiki.
Alley, Fiddle and Kiki are three cats used in pediatric intubation trainings at the University of Virginia medical school. The details are horrific: they’re immobilized and helpless as plastic tubes are repeatedly forced down their throats -- sometimes as many as 20 times each session. And Alley, Fiddle and Kiki have been enduring this torture for the last seven years.
As a pediatrician with over 25 years of experience, I know just how important proper intubation can be for premature babies. But it’s far more realistic to practice on a human simulator than a cat -- which is why almost every other medical school has stopped using animals in trainings. I can’t believe UVA would keep abusing these defenseless creatures rather than following universities like Yale and Johns Hopkins.
There are only weeks before Alley, Fiddle and Kiki will be subjected to yet another year of this torture -- a new round of pediatric residency students will start orientation on June 14. I’ve started an urgent petition on Change.org asking the university to stop using cats for training before classes start. Will you join me?
The university claims the cats are treated well -- but I can’t imagine anyone agreeing to let his or her cat or dog at home suffer this sort of procedure month after month, year after year. I don't see the difference between Alley, Fiddle, and Kiki at UVA, and my cats Beeto, Binky, Pounce, and Spooky at home.
I know from experience just how vital intubation can be -- it saves lives. I’m simply asking the university to stop using this outdated and unnecessarily cruel method of teaching.
At least 94% of pediatric residency programs have stopped using cats because more ethical, effective methods are available. I’m convinced that if UVA hears from thousands of people across the community, it will realize it should do the same.
Help me make sure Alley, Fiddle and Kiki don’t endure another year of this torture.
Thanks for your help,
Dr. Roberta Gray" | Topic: Cats & Dogs | Erinc

A friend of mine wants me to bring Luka round to see how he would get on with her cat...
I don't think its a good idea but she insists that they will get on :/
Even if they did... I've seen Luka play - and its not exactly gentle - I wouldn't want Luka to get an unnecessary claw to the face either.
Do you guys think I should give it a go? What sort of tell tale signs should we look out for?
I know a few of you have both cats and dogs in the home so any advice would be appreciated - I'm assuming they just avoid eachother? | Topic: Cats and Huskies | honey_bee

Everything I have read thus far online is 50/50 on this subject. So here is the story. We have just adopted a 6 year old female Siberian Husky from the pound, she was terribly neglected, has fly matted ears, and and awful coat. However she is just a gorgeous dog. You can tell she was abused though as she cowers sometimes when you go to pat her She is gentle, sits on command and only barked for a few minutes the first time we got her home. Great with out 14 month old son, and was great at the beach with every dog, big and small. At home, we have 3 cats. Thus far one cat has been very brave and is always sitting at the door staring, husky will occasionally bark at her, but doesn't show typical signs of aggression. Said brave cat forgot a dog was outside and ran out, they met up, cat hissed a bit, (well a lot) then husky chased her about 10 metres, more hissing, but husky came back when called and rolled over for belly rubs! Cat was scared but just hissed and stood her ground. Verdict is still out on the other two. Based on the dogs reaction to the brave cat today, what is your honest opinion on how the husky and cats could co-habitate? I appreciate any and all information/advice! | Topic: Husky puppy raised with 2 cats?? | TheHailstorm

| Search in: General Discussions Subject: Husky puppy raised with 2 cats?? Thu Jun 23, 2011 3:13 pm | Hey everyone! We're are new to this site. We are getting our new puppy Bella(thats her name as of now) on July 7th, shes a siberian husky of course and she is just gorgeous! We have been wanting a husky for a long time now and we have been doing a lot of research. Some things I was unaware too, but since I'm learning about it now, at least we can be prepared. Ok so for my question, I have heard that considering the "prey instinct" that huskies have, I have read a lot about how they will kill smaller animals i.e. cats and others but I heard that if raised from a puppy with cats that they will do better with small animals. Now, we are going to crate train our husky, and even though we do have a backyard, she WILL be going outside with us on a leash at all times. I have also read that they will learn to live with the cats in the house but if they encounter ones they are not used to, they want to kill those. We are mainly concerned about our 2 cats. Bella will be 9 weeks when we bring her home and our cats are 3 and almost 1. Does anyone else have cats with their huskies? IS IT possible to have them in the same house together and raise them together? I want to know if other people have had success raising their puppy with cats and things are ok. We plan on keeping her in the crate at night and whenever we are gone. Advice please, our 6 year old (and us) are soo excited about bringing her home! Any advice, suggestions, etc you can offer would be just wonderful!! Thank you!! | Topic: Dogs and Cats | SabakaMom

| Search in: General Discussions Subject: Dogs and Cats Mon May 09, 2011 5:25 pm | One of the latest posts called "Eating non-edibles" lead to the conversation of "Eating cats"... Well, not really EATING cats but at least tolerating the family cat.
I know I have read over and over that huskies will kill cats and other small creatures but my first husky did very well with my Mother-in-law's cats. We have been told and believe that since Sabaka is young he can learn that our cat belongs here with us and even if they do not LOVE each other they must tolerate each other.
The short story is that the cat really cannot live with us like the dog can because I am extremely allergic to her. She just showed up a few years ago and adopted us so we decided to make it work by allowing her to live in the basement, be cared for by the hubby and kids and have freedom to be outside when she wants. It's not a cushie life...but it works for her.
So now we introduce crazy puppy... Frist, I'm afraid of "cat claw meets dog eye". We have not allowed them to even touch each other. They bat at each others paws under the door and bark and hiss. Our vet says that's a great start and now we should begin letting them "visit" by seeing each other with the cat in a carrier and the dog on a leash and us saying "leave it". We tried that once... It seemed kinda mean to the cat. So far we have never let the dog go into the cat's world thinking that we should allow her to have a space where she feels safe from his hyperness. I don't think these gradual introductions are working. I really don't want the dog to hurt the cat if they accidentally get together sometime. Nor do I want the cat to slice up the puppy now because when she sees him (on his leash) she is a hissing, spitting fool!!
Any thoughts? | Topic: My Cats :) | Rhet

This site has been very helpful. Still debating whether to get one from the shelter or go with a breeder. My question to all you experienced Husky owners is regarding cats and Huskies. We have a 6 year old cat. I have passed on 2 different shelter Huskies as the shelter couldn't guarantee they wouldn't be aggressive with a cat (they actually wouldn't adopt them out to people with cats). I have also heard horror stories of owners coming home to their cat in shreds. Then you see the adorable YouTube videos of Huskies with cats. | Search in: Rescue Missions Subject: r/w F husky looking for home (no cats!) Mon Jan 18, 2010 2:57 pm | Hi My name is Ecko, my mommy adopted me from a bad situation and absolutely adores me, but was told I was good with cats, well, I have a taste for kitty and my mommy is an avid cat lover. I enjoy long walks in the snow, my coat is woolly and I am spayed, up to date on my shots until 5/26/10, and love all other huskies!!! I can talk and my mommy taught me to say "i love you"
Hi, I am ecko's mommy... I have been going back and forth between wanting to find a way to keep her and the cats in my house together and trying to find her a home since I adopted her and had our first "incident" with the cats... My male husky had been raised around cats at his kennel and has been around my cats since he was 7 weeks old... so naturally I assumed that the lady I adopted Ecko from was telling me the truth, not just trying to peddle a dog to the first unsuspecting person... but once I saw her conditions I couldn't take her back from where I got her, not even after she injured one of my cats. This is a tough situation I have been putting myself through, and I have decided that it would be better for Ecko and for my cats for Ecko to find a new home no matter how much my heart breaks over it... So if anyone is interested please let me know. She is very sweet and loving, but absolutely CANNOT go to a home with cats in or around it... thank you, brittany | | |
