Hello. I live in Arizona, and it's HOT here for six months, warm for three, and cool for three. I've had my seven-year-old husky for four years. I got her from a husky rescue in Phoenix. She has never blown her coat, and I have never succeeded in removing any fur with any of the grooming tools I've used on her. Her coat appears to be too big for her, and I know she struggles with the heat. My groomer finds her difficult to work on and no longer seems to want her as a client. Does anybody have any suggestions for effective tools I can use, etc.?

I'm going to first say something you already know - This is odd!!

I live in the desert of southwest Texas - not quite as warm as Phoenix, for example - but we do see several days over 100° during the summer.  My benefit is that we're at about 3000" so our temps are not as extreme as much of AZ.  Both of mine are quite apt to be laying in my drive when it's too hot to walk on barefoot!  

An observation, and I'm trying to not be condescending, remember that her coat should protect her from the heat as well as the cold ... like the insulation in your attic.  It'll keep her warm in the cold winter but it should also shield her from the effects of the sun (and heat) during the summer.

My Alaskan doesn't have much of an undercoat and he's blown that already; my Sibe has a fairly dense coat and we're working on getting her undercoat under control (HAH!!)

I'm going to ask for some pictures if you will.  A full shot of her, side on and another closer up of her fur and undercoat. (more if you'd like)  I'm trying to get an idea of what you're seeing and see if I can see anything obvious.  ... and not immediately after she's seen your groomer, please!

We have a couple of ladies here, @amymeme and @Twisterii who might be of more help - I'm looking at general coat and grooming while they're more knowledgeable about potential medical problems.

ETAL Just an afterthought, you got her from a Husky rescue ... what are the chances that she's not pure / mostly Husky but mixed with something else (by definition an Alaskan Husky) that wouldn't shed their coat. I find this more likely than a Sibe that doesn't blow it's coat.

Thanks for your response! My first husky, who was AKC registered, never blew her coat either!! We lived in Texas for the first several years of her life, then moved out to Sedona, AZ, which is at about 4000 feet and not as hot as Phoenix (thankfully I don't live in Phx), but still very hot with a very LONG summer.

So my first thought is she is either overweight or out of proportion which would indicate a mix somewhere in there. I wish mune didnt go through blowing coats. 3 of my 4 are at the moment and 2 are breeds i didnt know blew undercoats (i didnt think wire terriers get undercoats but tell splinter that)

Whats the year round shedding like? Basing it off a mix but squirt doesnt blow her coat but sheds all year and spider is going through a coat blow now but doesnt shed much most of the year.

She sheds very little. She is a few pounds overweight, but she's well-proportioned. Her legs look short when her coat is super full, but they are actually just covered with ridiculously dense fur. I'm going to a different groomer in a couple of days; maybe they will offer some insight...

Just going off what others have said, she does look "odd" dont get me wrong she is super cute, but her legs do look really short and her mid section large, and i know fur can make a dog look bulky but i do not think thats the case here. have you had her DNA checked? the very first picture i would have thought she was a young puppy still growing till i reread you said she was 7. I have never heard of a sib not blowing its coat and i have friends i super warm areas. is she more of a constant sheder? my girl was like that, rarely did she get giant tuffs of fur but more or less shed her coat over a long course of time. i use like 3 different brushes as their bodies have diff fur in sections. under rake comb, normal hair brush, a desheder.
what about using a air blower? does fur come out with that when she goes to grooming? maybe since she is groomed so much she is never really blowing her coat? how often do you groom her? my boys only gets baths 3-4 times a year.

My first sibe never blew her coat either, and I had her for 16 years. Neither one of them shed very much, but at least an undercoat rake would get a bit of fluff off of my first girl. Not so with this one, as none of the brushes I've tried seems to have any effect. Groomers have told me that both my first sibe and this one have very dense/tight coats. I have seen other threads on this forum about dogs that have never blown their coat. I only take her to the groomer three or four times a year.
